Alice Beattie has spent her working life in book and magazine production.

Well respected in the print and publishing arena, she is highly regarded for her integrity, enthusiasm, and structured approach to problem-solving and troubleshooting.

Alice's early career was spent in the Production Departments of Hutchinson, Longman and Hamlyn. A move to the Automobile Association broadened her commercial experience and deepened her knowledge of the industry.

Her job has taken her all over Britain, Europe and the Far East. Her dedication and sense of humour have won her firm friends throughout the printing fraternity and also the respect of her publishing peers.

In 1997 Alice became Group Manufacturing Director for the National Magazine Company (Cosmopolitan, Good Housekeeping, Harper's Bazaar and other titles) and was a Board Director both there and with COMAG. When she took up the NatMag post she was in charge of producing 9 magazines; by the time she left in April 2009 her role encompassed 21 titles including 3 weeklies.

Along the way she was directly involved in the expansion of the company through acquisition and organic growth. In addition to her role purchasing repro, print and paper she led the change from analogue to digital workflows, set up an in-house photographic studio and brought repro in-house.

Alice has always felt that training was crucial to the industry and received the PPA Chairman's Award for her contribution to initiating the PPA Certificate in Production Management.
